Agonda is not a normal beach. Three kilometres of pale sand with the jungle pressed right up behind it, no high rises, no jet skis, no thumping bars at 2am. Olive ridley turtles come back here every winter to nest, which tells you something about the place; they have their pick of the entire coastline and they choose this one. Dolphins in the morning if you're up early enough. The kind of sunsets that make everybody stop talking, every single night, even the people who have been here for years and really should be over it by now.

That is where you would be living. Not visiting. LIVING.

Yoke sits in the gap between that beach and those trees. Fourteen rooms, a cafe the whole village walks into, a rooftop yoga studio, our IYKYK sauna/ice studio, and a sound shala in the jungle where most of the interesting things happen. We run our own sound and movement trainings, we host retreats and teachers from all over the world, and we keep an evening schedule going that pulls people in from right up and down the coast.

We are small, independent and founder led, which is a polite way of saying we are a family. Not the corporate kind that says "family" on a poster in the staff room; the actual kind, where we eat together, argue occasionally, cover for each other on the bad days and celebrate properly on the good ones. Everybody here does things that are nowhere near their job description. That is the deal and we say it out loud rather than springing it on you in month two.

There is a real exchange in this, and it runs both ways. You bring us your skill, your standards and your energy through a demanding season, and we are paying you properly for it; there is nothing woolly about that part. What we give back on top is the thing that doesn't show up on a payslip. Free access to our classes and the shala schedule, training opportunities inside our own programmes if you want them, a season on one of the most beautiful beaches in Asia, and a team that will genuinely be pleased to see you at 7am. People who work at Yoke leave with more than they came with. That is the whole idea.
